Long Stitch: The Beginnerâ ™ € s Dream Stitch
Ever wanted to learn needlepoint, but just donâ € ™ t know where or how to begin? If you have an interest in the craft of the needle, is likely to have visited a variety of websites that address the issue. Alternatively, there may be investigated the theme to the old way, through your local library and bookstore. There are many sources available on the subject. Youâ € ™ ve probably scanned through some of the information resources and found literally hundreds of stitches on the list. Does this cause panic? Remain calm, help is underway.
For the beginner, I have always recommended Long Stitch as the point of learning embroidery. The long stitch, a member of the family of the straight stitch is, as I said in the title of this article, stitch beginnerâ ™ € s dream. The reason this point is so easy to learn, is, well, because it is a SIMPLE. The stitch is exactly what both names imply. It's a long straight stitch. There are loops at this point, you need not worry about crossing the stitch. The stitch working from the bottom up. Just put the needle and thread through the fabric, move up on the number of items of canvas and bring the needle through web. ™ € I really can not get any easier than that!
Another advantage of working with not only the Long Stitch, but any straight stitch is the lack of distortion of canvas. Because the stitches are worked vertically or horizontally straight, no diagonal pull, the main cause of deformation canvas, as is common with stitches and cross diagonally.
There are two basic rules to keep in mind when working long stitch project. Rule Number One: do not create items that are too long. One point that is too long and sticks occasionally break. If you've spent time and effort into a needlepoint project, what you really want worry about coming apart at some point in the future? That was an absurd question, nobody would want that. It's a good idea to keep your stitches at no more than eight or ten long threads of fabric. This number is based on the 10-mesh (gauge) canvas. If you are working in a small mesh fabric, for example, 12 to 18-mesh or mesh, the points can be worked over a larger number of threads. Rule number two: Maintain a thread tension even throughout the project. The wire is taut, but not enough to cause the canvas to bend. To help achieve this goal, a framework should always be used for long-stitch projects. When you load the project into a four-way structure, you will able to maintain the fabric stretched in four directions. A scroll box is highly recommended for this.
Long Stitch projects are available in kits. With a team, you get the design already printed on the canvas, plus the amount of thread that you have to work the project. Lately, I've noticed a decrease in the number of stitch kits available that feature long. Iâ € ™ m not sure why this is so. Fortunately, I design my own projects. Many of them consist of long stitch and straight stitches. I have found long stitch to be excellent when the working details like wrinkles on the face or the skin of a dog and a cat. The point where long stitch ends and another begins to create its own line, creating wrinkles on the face or line of cat and dog fur.
