lip tattoo risks
Is it normal for a scab to try to form over my lip ring?

Well, the truth is it is a scab and I hear from so many people and piercing artists oppisite things.
2 piercing artists and 4 of my friends say keep it clean keep the scab off the lip ring.
3 other friends and 1 piercing artist said, don’t worry about it.

My true question is do I leave the scab on or off. I been cleaning it off. So if I messed up atlest I prolonged the healing enstead of risking leaving it on and hearing you can get an infection.

The lip ring don’t hurt or anything enless I move the lip ring to clean off the scab But only moving it causes a sligt sting like if I dumped alcohol on a new tattoo.
Let me rephrase the question. Am I suppost to let the lip ring (Body Jewelry) have the scab grow on that. I was told by friends that I have to clean it off. Then other people told me to leave it on. What is the correct way to go.

I would personally leave it on. If you keep pulling it off, if will take longer to heal, and will leave a scar (just as if you keep picking scabs anywhere else, it will scar).. of course the piercing will leave a little scar when you do take it out in the future (or should I say.. IF you take it out ;) ), but picking it will make it worse.
I did that with my eyebrow, and it just never healed (and left a bad scar), as the scab is like the protective layer that is forming over new skin, so when the scab comes off it pulls off the delicate new skin as well.
What they likely meant by “cleaning it off” is to clean off the crusties. These are little bits of dried blood and lymph, and if they’re stuck to the ring, but detached from your body.. when you spin the ring around they’re going to go through the hole (an open wound) and pull away and damage the new skin, again increasing healing time.
However, don’t pick off scabs that are still attached to you, as your also pulling off newly forming skin. Just leave them. I know, they can look gross, but they’ll just die and fall off eventually.

In general, remove anything that isn’t attached. Leave anything that is. Pulling it off is causing damage.

Good luck!

(and yes, it’s normal. It is an open wound after all)
